The culture, or unique qualities, of Sedona has been sculpted and nurtured by its environment and population. Sedona’s culture traces its origin to the unique geology of the area which is the result of over 300 million years of natural forces acting upon the land. As the first people ventured into this majestic landscape, they left their mark and stories that defined this land as an astonishing special place. This sentiment was shared by the first Western settlers and continues to be felt to this day.

Although times change and cultures evolve, names unite the generations of the past, present, and future. Names are lasting designations that come to define a particular city, district, strata, or rock formation. In Sedona the names not only connect present generations to the history of the city but they have also come to define the culture of this city in central Arizona.
